We celebrate the life and memory of Ms. Theresa Heard-Oliver whose death occurred Monday, May 4, 2020 at her residence under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mrs. Julia Theresa Heard- Oliver passed away Monday, May 4, 2020 at home in Savannah, GA surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Guyton, GA to the late Rev. J.W.H. Thomas, Sr. and Marie Easley Thomas on August 12, 1922.
At an early age she attended elementary school in Effingham County along with her eleven sisters and brothers and joined First Union Baptist Church in Guyton. Later in life she joined Thankful Missionary Baptist Church of Savannah, GA where she served faithfully in the choir and other ministries until her health declined.
As a retired educator, Theresa always had a passion for helping others. She completed high school in Millen, GA and married the late Randle W. Heard, Sr. where they owned and operated Heard Funeral Home in Metter, GA for many years. To this marriage one son, Randle Jr., was born.
Later in life “Tee” (affectionately called) received a bachelor degree and a master’s degree from Savannah State University and taught school in Bryan and Chatham Counties for many years. She retired from the Chatham County school system.
Upon retirement, Theresa, along with her husband, Judge Oliver, had the opportunity to travel to many states during the summer months with friends and family. She enjoyed being a member of the Chatham County Retired Teachers Association and other organizations.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Rev. J.W.H. Thomas, Jr., Rev. B.C. Thomas, Raleigh Thomas, Corrie Thomas and Cardell Thomas; four sisters, Amy Ruth Thomas, Tressa Burns, Thelma Robinson and Alzada Holt.
She was a wonderful well-dressed lady with much class and dignity, loved, will be missed and cherished always.
“Tee” leaves to cherish her precious memories, a loving husband Judge Oliver of Atlanta, a caring and loving son, Randle W. Heard, Jr.(Juanita) of Orlando, FL, two grandchildren, Nicole Heard Jones (Derry) of Pembroke Pines, FL and Chiquita Bryant of Jacksonville, FL, two great grands; Dylan Jones of Pembroke Pines, FL and Cedric Bryant of Jacksonville, FL, two sisters, E. Lynett Lester of Savannah, GA and Mayor Justine T. Brown (Willie) of Oliver, GA, step children, William B. Oliver of Atlanta, Clyde Sheppard of Savannah, GA, step daughter-in-law, Valerie J. Oliver, sister-in-law’s, Clyde J. Cutter and Jo Heard of New Jersey, special caregivers (nieces), Eugenia Zeigler and Jacquelyn Morgan and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Public Viewing will be held 12-5 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2020 & 1-6p.m. On Sunday, May 10, 2020 in the Chapel.
