Mildred F. Spellman was born December 17, 1937 to James Burns and Ada Bell Wright, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gene Burns, Harvey Burns, Thomas Burns, Homer Burns, Ada Williams, Loretta Barnes, David Burns, Edna Mae Cutter, Henrietta Taylor, and was the last survivor of her siblings.
She was a graduate of Beach High School and briefly attended Savannah State College. She was joined in holy matrimony to Leroy Spellman Sr. on August 21,1956. Their union was blessed with three children.
Mildred first attended Asbury United Methodist Church and later joined The Royal Church of Christ where she served diligently. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing games (PacMan was a favorite), had the most infectious personality and smile, and possessed the greatest sense of humor.
Sister Mildred Spellman entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 9, 2021.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Ann Spellman-Riles, two sons, Leroy Spellman, Jr. and K. Patrick Spellman (Belinda); grandchildren, Shonya Crafton (Jerry), Vadeam Williams, Selena Moore (James), Keysha Turner, Toya Horton (Patrick), Asia Spellman, Joy Spellman, and Benjamin Spellman; ten great-grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; one God-daughter, Eloise Maxwell; one sister-in-law, Annie Lee Burns; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends who’ve been like family for over 30 years, Jerry, Myra, Harry, and Leah Portman.
Public viewing will be held 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2021 in the Chapel of Campbell & Sons Funeral Home, 124 W. Park Ave., Savannah, GA. 31401. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Jesus First The Community Church, 2202 US Highway 80 West, Garden City, GA. 31404. Interment ~ Woodville Cemetery, 125 Spring Street, Savannah, GA. 31408.
