Mr. Richard “Rip” Richardson, Jr. entered eternal rest on Monday, September 27, 2021 after a battle with cancer. He was born on September 24, 1945 in Allendale, South Carolina to the late Richard Richardson, Sr. and Lumisher Chisholm Richardson. He was educated in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School. Richard was inducted into the United States Army specializing in the Artillery Unit as an Auto Weapons Crewman. He was honorably discharged in 1972. After being discharged, Richard began working as a bus operator for Chatham Area Transit in 1973 and retired in 2019 after serving our community for over 45 years.
Richard was always known for his jovial and lighthearted spirit. He was an avid bowler, loved football, and NASCAR racing. He prided himself on maintaining his yard and keeping his vehicles spotless. Richard always had a joke to share that would put smiles on everyone’s faces. Richard lived his life unapologetically and by the Word of God that tells us in Ecclesiastes 8:15; “So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry; for this will remain with him in his labor all the days of his life which God gives him under the sun,” (NKJV) and for this we will forever be grateful for the memories we are left to share of his life.
Richard is proceeded in death by his parents Richard and Lumisher Richardson and his granddaughter Makayla Walter who he loved dearly. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Gloria D. Richardson; his sons and daughter, Richard Richardson, III, James D. Nesbitt, Jr. and Tiffany Walter; brothers, James Richardson (LoRetha), Curtis L. Richardson, David Glover (Gayle); sisters, Ida Sadler, Bernice Richardson, Attorney Kim Askew, MSgt Karen Bruins, Retired (Andrew), and Sylvia Walter (Howard); a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews; great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and several close friends including his Chatham Area Transit family, Amalgamated Transit Union Local AFLCIO 1324 family, Yamacraw Village family; AMC Bowling League Community; and so many others far too many to name directly.
Graveside services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Magnolia Memorial Gardens, 5532 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, GA. 31405.
