“In My Distress I called upon the Lord,”
And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of His temple, and
My cry came before Him, even into his ears.” Psalm 18:6
Mother Julia Adam Forbes was born December 2, 1934, to the Late Mr. Purvis and Mrs. Alice Green Adams of Levy, South Carolina. She was blessed with nine siblings. Three brothers preceded her in death: Purvis, John, and Nathaniel Adams; along with four sisters: Maggie Adams, Alice Adams, Febbie Adams, Roselee Muschette. She was educated in the Chatham County School System and graduated from Thompkins High School in 1957. She later attended Nursing School and worked at Georgia Infirmary until she became ill. She was united in marriage to Mr. Oscar James Forbes on November 14, 1958. From this union three daughters were born. They were blessed to adopt three other children into the family. One preceded her in death, Henrietta Ferguson Baker.
Mother Forbes was a former member of Smyrna Baptist Church. On September 11, 1994, Mother Forbes made a decision to become a member of New Salem Community Fellowship Church, under the pastorate of Pastor, now Bishop Nathaniel Small, Sr. After accepting to be a member of the Mother’s Board, Bishop Small prayed and anointed her to serve on the Mother’s Board. Mother Forbes served faithfully. She joyfully prepared the Communion Table every month, along with Mother Janie Knight. She attended and served faithfully until her health challenges. Whenever, in her presence, even if she wasn’t feeling her best, she greeted everyone with that beautiful welcoming smile. She will be greatly missed by Bishop, Lady Small and the entire New Salem Fellowship family.
Mother Forbes spent her remaining days at the home of her eldest daughter, Rosa. Her daughters and grands were very faithful in taking care of her. Though she could no longer attend services, Bishop and Lady Small prayed with her often. The Deacons and Elders would make sure she partook in Holy Communion as long as it was possible.
On Friday, October 1, 2021, Bishop and Lady Small made their usual call to pray. Her daughters and grands were there. They were told after the prayer, Mother Forbes was listening attentively as always, but this time her eyes were focused upward, “upward bound!” Not long after the prayer, the call was made to inform Bishop and Lady Small that Mother had taken her flight! She had already lifted eyes unto the hill from whence her final help had come.
She leaves to cherish her memories, five daughters, Rosa Forbes, Maggie Forbes Ellison (Isaiah Ellison) Sheryl Forbes; Alice Ferguson Smith, and Regina Myers all of Savannah, GA. One brother, Daniel Adams of Vineland, New Jersey. One aunt, Alice Adams of Philadelphia, PA.; twenty grandchildren; 12 great grands, a host of nephews, nieces; other relatives and friends. A Faithful and loving Patient Care Tech, Latasha House who became a part of the Forbes Family.
