Mother Beautine Elouise (Law) Shuman

September 6, 1940 ~ November 3, 2021 (age 81)


Beautine Elouise (Law) Shuman, born September 6, 1940 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Herbert Law Jr. and Cornelia Jackson, raised by her beloved paternal grandparents Herbert (DaDa) and Julia Elouise Law Sr. who also preceded her in death.

Beautine received her education through the Chatham County Public School System. At a young age was baptized at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where she served in many capacities which included the Usher Board, the Choir in which she served as the president for many years, the Deaconess Board and faithfully on the Home Mission Ministry. Later in life, she joined the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church under her son Pastor James Shuman Jr. where she served as Church Mother until her untimely demise.

On July 24, 1962, Mother Shuman was joined in holy matrimony to Deacon James Shuman Sr., to this union they shared a loving family of seven children and raised one grandson.

Mother Shuman was known for her singing throughout Savannah’s gospel community and was one of the original members of David Taylor and The Pearly Gates. In 1995 she founded and directed The Children of God which consisted of her grandchildren. 

Mother Shuman retired from Candler Hospital-Environmental Division after twenty-eight years of service. Then she pursued her passion of caring for others by establishing her home childcare B.E. Toddlers Land in 1995.

Wednesday November 3, 2021 Beautine heard Jesus voice say unto her “Come unto me and rest from your labor”. God dispatched his angels to guide Beautine into His loving arms from labor to reward surrounded by her loving and devoted family from St. Joseph’s Candler Hospital. 

She was preceded in death by two daughters Judy Henderson and Elanda Pamela Briscoe, grandson Joshua Shuman, sister Marie Smalls, uncles Theodore Law Sr., John Law, and Joe Law Sr. aunts Bessie Burton and Dorothy Law. 

 Mother Shuman leaves to cherish her legacy a loving and devoted husband of 59 years Deacon James Shuman Sr. of Savannah, Georgia, three daughters, Connie Henderson, Stephanie Momplaisir, and Beverly Francis, two sons, Pastor James (Nora) Shuman Jr. and Minister Frederick (Felicia) Shuman Sr. all of Savannah, GA., sister Shirley Tinley of New Brunswick, NJ., special cousin Frank Law of Jacksonville, Fl., special friend Sis. Helen Green, two spiritual daughters, Angela Johnson & Ruth (Maurice) Johnson all of Savannah, GA., twenty grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Public viewing will be held 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2021 at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 38 Ferrill Street, Savannah, GA. 31415. Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Paul C.M.E. Church, 1601 Barnard Street, Savannah, GA. 31401. Interment ~ Magnolia Memorial Gardens, 5532 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, GA. 31405.
