Melvin "Mickey" Ford

We celebrate the life and memory of Mr. Melvin "Mickey" Ford whose death occurred Saturday, May 9, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Melvin "Mickey" Ford was born the youngest child of the late Mary Frazier Ford, May 4, 1946, in Savannah, Georgia. He departed this life,  Saturday morning, May 9, 2020, Saint Joseph/Candler Hospital in Savannah.

Melvin attended Hilton Head Elementary and Junior High Schools.  He is a 1965 graduate of Michael C. Riley High School, Bluffton, South Carolina.   After graduation, he relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, to join his brother and sister.

Melvin was employed at General Electric Company and DeLeading Company in Boston, Massachusetts. Years later, he returned to South Carolina, and was a Bell Captain at Hyatt Regency in Hilton Head. 

An important decision in Melvin's life came into fruition as He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  He received the Holy Ghost in Columbia, South Carolina. Later, the baptism in Jesus' name at Emmanuel Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church, Inc., Savannah, Georgia, under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus, Lucille P. Turner.

Melvin attended Victory Drive Deliverance Temple under the leadership of the Late Bishop Luther C. Anderson.  He became a member of New Life Experience, formerly New Life Apostolic Church in August 2010, under the leadership of District Elder John P. Anderson, Sr.

He was married to Wilhemenia Currington, and to this union one child was born, Vashni Ford. 

On May 9, 2020, the Lord called Melvin home after fighting the good fight of faith.  Preceding him in death are his mother, the Late Mary Frazier Ford; son, Darryl Ferguson; two brothers, Henry Ford and Nathaniel Ford.  To cherish his memories, he leaves a son, Keith Henderson (April); five daughters, Sylvia Bell Berry (Michael), Doris Brown (Theodore), Monica Buggs, Viola Harris, Vashni Ford Young; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Harold Frazier (Almetha), Louis Frazier (Rebecca); two sisters, Ruth Vanderhorst (Charles, deceased) and Naomi Calhoun (Benjamin), Step-sister, Cynthia Ford ; a host of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Public Viewing will he held 3-8p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020 in the Chapel.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 at

Talbird Cemetery
