John Middleton, Jr.

We celebrate the life and memory of Mr. John Middleton, Jr.  whose death occurred Friday, August 21, 2020 at Riverview Health & Rehab. under the care of Affinis Hospice. 

John Middleton, 87, a kind, cosmopolitan and esteemed gentleman, of Savannah, Georgia passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Affinis Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Annie Middleton, and his brother John Casteel of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was born in Moultrie, Georgia on August 31, 1932 to the late John and Rosie Middleton.

 John received his formal education in the Moultrie Georgia Public School System. He graduated from Savannah State College with a B. S. Degree in Social Studies. John was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and a Mason. He taught school in Beaufort, South Carolina, Dade County in Miami, Florida and Savannah Chatham County Public School Systems. John served in the United States Army as military police in Germany for three (3) years.  Being a multitalented man, he had numerous jobs working as a social worker, insurance agent, and a bus driver. He retired from Georgia Regional as an orderly.

As a Christian, John was a faithful member of St. Philip Monumental Church. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.

John was happily married to his wife Annie Middleton for forty-six years. He was a devoted husband and father. John was also a hard worker, an avid reader, and a very knowledgeable person who was always up for a challenge. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. He never complained about anything and made the most of his life according to the circumstances. This quote from “A Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow epitomized the life of our beloved John who was a beacon in our lives: “...Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime and, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time...

John is survived by his daughter Sharon Middleton; two sons Anthony and Freddy Middleton of Savannah, Georgia; a sister Sarah Lordnum; stepchildren/ caretakers Linda Hughes; Carnetta Crawford; Christcell Grant; and Larry Grant.  He is also survived by a host of grands, great grands, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.  John has earned his heavenly reward by resting in the bosom of Jesus. To God Be the Glory!

Public viewing will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Campbell & Sons Funeral Home 124 W. Park Ave. Savannah, GA 31401

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Magnolia Memorial Gardens 5530 Silk Hope Rd. Savannah,GA 31406
