Joann Marshall Gary

We celebrate the life and memory of Mrs. Joann Marshall Gary whose death occurred Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Candler Hospital.

Mrs. Joann Marshall Gary departed this life on August 27th, 2020. She was born October 2, 1943 to the late Mr. Leroy Grant and Mrs. Beatrice Marshall-Middleton (stepfather Mr. James Middleton). She attended Saint Anthony’s School. While there, she was baptized into the Catholic faith. Later, she attended Tompkins High School where she met Charles Gary.

On April 26, 1962 they were joined in wedlock. To this union four children were born.

Mrs. Gary then began a new Christian experience. She was to begin serving God in the Baptist faith. She became a member of First Mount Bethel Church. She served as co-chairperson of the senior choir and President of District 12. She was a songstress in many churches.

She had a passion for cooking which led her to be a cook at Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant, where she was a cook for 30-plus years.

She leaves to cherish in memory her husband of 58 years Mr. Charles L. Gary; three sons, Gregory L. Grant, Charles A. Gary Sr. (Ella); Kevin T. Gary; one daughter Sonya L. Gary; four sisters, Gloria Williams (Russell), Alice Edward (Ned), Hester Chisholm, and Phyllis Hampton; two brothers Harry Middleton and Daniel Middleton (LaTrell), five grandchildren; Sherice Jackson (Kevin), Jermaine Grant, Jamal Grant, Charles A. Gary Jr.,  and Jessica Gary; two great-grandchildren, Kali and Kevin Jackson Jr.; and a host of other family members and friends.

Public viewing will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Campbell & Sons Funeral Home 

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2020 at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery (Hunter Army Airfield) Savannah, GA
