Jannie (Sandra Miller) Mikell

August 30, 2020

We celebrate the life and memory of Mrs. Jannie (Sandra Miller) Mikell whose death occurred Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Candler Hospital.

Mother Jannie Mikell, daughter of the late Bishop Johnnie Miller, Sr. and the late Mother Rose Lee Smith Miller, was born March 15, 1950 in Savannah, Georgia. On Sunday, August 30, 2020 at St. Joseph’s\Candler Hospital, God in His infinite wisdom and too wise to make a mistake, saw that Sandra’s burden was too heavy for her to bear, reached down and said, “Come home thou good and faithful servant, it is time for you to rest.”

She attended the Savannah Public Schools and graduated from Tompkins High School Class of 1968. She worked as a school-bus driver for a brief period of time. Instead of finding employment elsewhere, she made the decision to dedicate her life to raising her children.

At an early age, Sandra accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Throughout the years, she served as a choir director and at the center of her heart was evangelism and outreach. In her early ministry, she was known for bringing “FIRE” from heaven as she played the drums during services. As she continued her walk with Christ, she answered the call that God had placed on her life and became an ordained Evangelist.

Even as she grew in age and persevered through many health challenges including the amputation of her leg, she never allowed that to stop her praise. She would give glory to God by playing the drums, tambourine and washboard.  When she felt a dance in her feet, she would just move that wheelchair to the music. Despite all she has gone through in her life, she never wore a frown; instead she smiled and always thanked God for blessing her and her family.  Mother Mikell was a true woman of God and a faithful encourager to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Jason.

To those left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life include: Three sons, Mr. Jimmy “Mel” Mikell, Mr. Johnny Mikell and Mr. Joseph Mikell all of Savannah, Georgia; One daughter, Ms. Jannie “Rosie” Jason of Savannah, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Sheai Mikell, JoeTracie Mikell, and JoeAnna Mikell all of Savannah, Georgia, and Charity Mikell of Atlanta, Georgia; Two brothers, Mr. Robert (Mary) Miller of Pooler, Georgia and Elder Johnnie (Nikki) Miller of Guyton, Georgia; One sister, Ms. Shirley Miller Gamble of Savannah, Georgia; One Aunt, Mrs. Blanche Cohen Cue of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.  She also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
