Herman Lee Teachey

On May 24th, 2021 God called home another one of His angels, Mr. Herman Lee Teachey a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many who came into contact with him. We mourn his transition but Celebrate his life and dedication that he had to his family and friends. He was affectionally called "The Big Cheese" because of his humble but big life attitude, mentorship, words of wisdom and encouragement. He treated everyone with a smile and gentle spirit. Herman loved his family and made unwavering sacrifices to ensure that they enjoyed the best of life. He was born on November 17th, 1935 and a proud son of the late William and Dorothy Mae Cooper Teachey in Duplin County, North Carolina.
After attending the Duplin Public School system in North Carolina, he migrated to Long Island New York. In 1971, he met his beloved late wife Gertrude Miller-Teachey and married on August 23, 1976 a marriage of 38 years. He worked as a building superintendent for more than 35 years. He retired from Protective Services from Bayside Terrence, Queens, New York and relocated to Richmond Hill, Georgia in 2001. He enjoyed reading, especially the bible, watching western movies, playing chess, watching sporting events and chatting with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memories children Dorothy D. Herring, Wallace, North Carolina, Reverend Lucy Redd (Kenneth), Hempstead, North Carolina, Fitzgerald Miller, Queens, New York, Morna “Kim” Davis, Queens, New York, Tonya Baskerville (Lawrence), Richmond Hill, Georgia and Herman J. Miller, Richmond Hill, Georgia, Brothers Joe Teachey, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Leon Teachey, Rose Hill, North Carolina, sisters Ethel Morris, Lula M. Thomas, Ernestine Savage (Jimmy) all of Wallace, North Carolina, and Annie D. Walton of Fayetteville, North Carolina and four sister-in laws and one brother in-law. He will also be missed by a host of grandchildren, great grands, nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Public viewing will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 in the Chapel of Campbell and Sons Funeral Home, 124 W. Park Ave., Savannah, GA. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Magnolia Memorial Gardens, 5532 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, GA 31405.
