Deacon Frank “Mr. Bamboo” Williams, Sr.

February 25, 1942 ~ September 13, 2021 (age 79)

Deacon Frank Williams, Sr. “ Mr. Bamboo” was born February 25, 1942 in (Ogeecheeton Community) Savannah, Georgia  to the late Charlie and Ruby Williams.  He was preceded in death by daughter Penny Patterson and son, Frank Williams.

Frank was a dedicated member and faithful servant  of  Historic First Bryan Baptist Church. He became a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Edward L. Ellis, Jr.. He served faithfully on the Usher’s Ministry, Laymen’s Ministry, and Men’s choir. 

He retired after 31 years from the University of Georgia Coastal Georgia Botanical Garden at the Historic Bamboo Farm. He is affectionately known as ‘Mr Bamboo” because of this love of gardening and cultivation, care, harvesting and use of  Bamboo. A classroom at the Botaanical garden  was named  in his honor for his skills, dedication,  and knowledge. 

He was  an avid fisherman and loved spending time with family and church family .Always willing to go above and beyond to assist others that are in need. 

One of his favorite quotes was “Honor your mother and father and your days will be long upon the earth”.

Frank was called to enteral rest early Monday, September 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at home. 

Deacon Frank leaves to cherish his memories of great love, caring, and giving, Three sons: Charles Williams (Phyllis), Anthony Williams (Angel) both of Savannah, GA., and Frank Williams (Andrea Dabney) of Hampton, GA., One son- in law, Jimmy Patterson, Savannah, GA., Four daughters: Karen Byson-Cooper, Sharon Byson both of Taunton, Mass, Michelle Williams and Trenell Woods, both of Atlanta, GA, and Cassanadra Evans (John), of Savannah, Ga. One daughter- in- law Sharalyn Williams, of Savannah, GA., Four Sisters: Thelma Waite, Savannah, Ga,  Beautine Saulters, Mobile, Al., Betty Ann Echols, Miami, Fl, Jean Lavern Whitfield (Robert), Savannah, GA., One brother, Ronald Williams (Brenda), Savannah, Ga. 30 Grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and abundance of  friends.

Public viewing will be held 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 in the chapel of Campbell & Sons Funeral Home, 124 West Park Ave., Savannah, GA. 31401. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021 at First Bryan Baptist Church, 575 West Bryan Street, Savannah, GA. 31401. Rev. Christopher J. Pittman, Pastor. Interment ~ Magnolia Memorial Gardens, 5532 Silk Hope Road, Savannah, GA.
