We celebrate the life and memory of Mrs. Barbara J. Rayford whose death occurred Monday, July 20, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Having been blessed to witness 79 years of life, Mrs. Barbara Jean Parrott Rayford departed her earthly life for eternity on July 20, 2020. Late Monday night, she heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me and rest!” Barbara was born on March 8, 1941 in New Madrid, Missouri to the late Mr. Leroy Parrott and Mrs. Ora Lee Fizer Parrott. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio and was educated through the Lucas County Public School System and graduated from Libbey High School in 1959. There she met and entered into Holy Matrimony with the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Mr. Johnnie Matt Rayford, who preceded her in death. Barbara accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very young age. She lived her life for the glory of God. She was a member of Temple of Glory Community Church in Savannah, Ga, where Bishop Dr. Matthew Marvin Odum Sr. is the pastor. Always a sweet, calm and godly soul, Barbara was a prayerful woman. Barbara was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She has always loved to shop. She was immensely loved and respected by everyone that knew her. Always giving and caring for others. Ever the loving, selfless and devoted daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, she was the greatest example of a phenomenal person. Our prayer is that God would equip us to stay true to this example. Our memories of her are sweet and we will treasure always. We have been taught by the best and we will continue to love God, to love His word and to love people in Spirit and in truth. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy and Ora Lee Parrott; husband, Johnnie Matt Rayford; siblings, Helen Kizer, Willie Parrott, and Thelma Parrott.
She is survived by her children, Kimberly Gillespie, Lucretia (Riley) Hawkins, Michelle (Timothy) Reed, and Johnny Rayford Henderson; siblings, Hattie Prater, Dr. Lilbourne “Leo” (Ietta) Parrott, Shirley (Jewrell) Neal, Jessie (Emma) McNeil, Costella Brown, and Madarin “Deenie” Berry; brother-in-law; Elwood (Jean) Rayford; grandchildren; Arquelio Gillespie Jr, Riletia (Damario) Hawkins-Pray, Arkamio Gillespie, Kimberly Reed, and Timirrah Reed; great-grandchildren; KaiLynn Gillespie, KaLanie Gillespie, TiMiyah Jones, Arquelio Gillespie III, Angel Oliver-Pray, Kenya Golson, and Monet Golson; two god-daughters; Drenda (Billy) Knighten and Trina Rayford; god-son, Dean Ross; best friend, Pecolia Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
