Sabrina L.
Cooper
Nov 28, 1968 — Jul 16, 2025
In Loving Memory of Sabrina Lynn Fitzgerald Cooper
Sabrina Lynn Fitzgerald Cooper, beloved mother, sister, educator, and friend, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Born on November 28, 1968, in Savannah, Georgia to the late Bobbie Lee (Pender) and Richard Calvin Fitzgerald, Sabrina was raised with values of kindness, resilience, and service. She received her early education through the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, nurtured at J.H.C. Butler Elementary, shaped by her years at DeRenne Middle School, and graduated from Windsor Forest High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Savannah State University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in education.
Beginning her teaching journey in 1995 at Sophronia M. Tompkins Middle School, Sabrina devoted over 25 years to shaping young minds across several schools: Bartlett Edward J. Middle School, West Chatham Middle School, Building Bridges Academy, and Rice Creek School. Her passion for education and mentorship left a lasting impact on countless students, colleagues, and families.
Above all, Sabrina was a proud and devoted mother to JaBria A. Cooper and James A. Cooper. Her love for her children was unwavering — a constant source of strength, wisdom, and encouragement throughout their lives.
She is lovingly remembered by her children; her former husband, James Cooper (Savannah, GA); her devoted brother, Larenza (Johnnie) Fitzgerald (Savannah, GA); and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a powerful sisterhood of friends who supported her throughout life's journey.
Sabrina was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bobbie and Richard Fitzgerald, whose spirit and values she carried with grace.
Sabrina's life was a shining example of compassion, dedication, and joy. To know her was to be uplifted by her warmth and inspired by her generous heart. She built community wherever she went and nurtured deep, lasting connections with those around her. Music brought her happiness, and she delighted in attending concerts and festivals that reflected her vibrant soul.
Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her legacy of love, service, and strength will continue to illuminate the lives of many. May her memory forever be a blessing to us all.
