We Celebrate the life and memory of Mr. Charles Butler whose passing occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Sprenger Health Care in Bluffton, Sc.

Charles Benedict Butler affectionately known to family and friends as “Sir Charles,” was born on March 11, 1938. Although born to his parents Charles Butler Sr, and Mary Daniels, he was lovingly raised by his aunt, Lillie Bell Butler, whom he affectionately called “Annie” after their deaths.

Sir Charles received his education through the Chatham County School System, attending Cuyler Junior High School and later graduating from Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1956. After graduation, Sir Charles moved to New York and became employed with Cornell University. While there, he attended Mannes School of Music where he grew to love classical music. In 1960, Sir Charles answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. His distinguished military career spanned an incredible 30 years, during which he retired twice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, The Late Charles Butler, Sr. and Mary Daniels; his beloved aunt, Lillie Bell Butler(“Annie”); his cousin/brother, Kenneth Tolbert, Sr., and his cousin Helen Steele.

Sir Charles leaves to cherish his precious memories: his sisterly cousins, Alice Acker and Sharon Atkins; two faithful cousins, Willie Mae Heyward and Gwendolyn Lois Byrd; and a host of extended family members, friends, church family, and loved ones who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
