A Vapor Of Life
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life?
It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." ~James 4:14
Deacon Darren Lewis was the youngest of six children born to Calvin and Eddie Mae Lewis on April 9, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY. One brother preceded him in death.
Deacon Lewis lived his childhood years in Brooklyn, NY, in the Bushwick Aylan Projects. His education began in the New York School Systems, and was completed at Windsor Forest High School here in Savannah, Georgia, where he graduated in 1982 after his parents relocated to Savannah, Georgia.
Once Deacon Lewis graduated high school, he joined the US Marine Corp for four years and returned back to Brooklyn, where he worked for Kinney Parking Garage for ten years. While on vacation in Savannah, he met his soul mate, then Kathy Pinkney. During this time, Darren made up his mind he'd found his good thing. After permanently making Savannah, Georgia his home, he became employed with Union Camp and after several years, Gulf Stream where he retired due to health concerns.
On May 12, 2000, Darren and Kathy became a blended family of four. He and his love were the best of friends. They were able to experience life together without many disagreements. This was a relationship between two people where communication was a key component and so was honesty. They stuck together through the good times and the bad times. Family time was a major factor in their relationship. Not just with each other, but also with their families. They weren't only best friends, but travel companions.
From the seas to the skies, they traveled three to four times a year. Enjoying each other's company.
Darren joined Christ Memorial Baptist Church. Wanting to be with his wife, he joined the New Greater Owen's Temple Ministries, Inc. under the leadership of Apostle W.B. Jefferson. In 2016, he joined Turning Point Ministries, Inc. under the leadership of Pastor Wandeana Johnson. In 2022, he was Ordained as a Deacon in the Lord's House. On March 9, 2025, he assisted in baptizing 11 candidates for the ministry's first baptism service. Deacon Lewis wore many hats and was very committed to the ministry.
He leaves to cherish his memories: A loving & devoted wife, Minister Kathy Lewis; His parents: Calvin & Eddie Mae Lewis of Savannah, GA; 2 children: Shabria Boney of Savannah, GA, & Larry (Sincere) Drake of Walterville, GA; 6 Grands: La'Nejia Drake, La'Niaj Drake, Tahaji Drake, Talent Drake, Truth Drake, & Zier Boney; 4 Siblings: Calvin Lewis, of Brooklyn, NY; Patricia Thornton, of Albany, GA; Michelle (James) Chandler, of Lawrenceville, GA; Loretta (Freddie) Smalls of Savannah, GA; 3 Sister-in-laws: Wandeana Johnson, Angela Brown, & Rochelle Maxwell; 2 Brother-in-laws: James (Cheryl) Pinkney, and Gregory (Jackie) Pinkney, all of Savannah, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.
