Obituary

Carolyn Green Johnson, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Hospice Savannah, Inc.

She was born on September 14, 1950, in Wadley, Georgia, to the late Curley N. Green Sr. and Aggie Lee Beatty Green. Carolyn graduated from Savannah High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Savannah State University in 1972. As a high school student, she was a dedicated member of the NAACP Youth Council and actively participated in civil rights sit-ins during a pivotal time in history.

In 1975, Carolyn proudly joined the United States Army, where she served with distinction for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). Her military career was marked by dedication and excellence. She was honored with numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and multiple service ribbons and medals recognizing her contributions during the Gulf War and other deployments.

Carolyn's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She joined First Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully as church secretary and clerk while stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. In her later years, after her health declined, she occasionally attended Second Arnold Baptist Church with her brother. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, she also participated regularly in worship services held at the assisted living facility where she resided.

Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Dea. Curley (Evelyn) Green; her nephews, Christopher (Lisa) Green and Jeremy (Laura) Green; her nieces, Jennifer Green and Dr. Elena (Lavon) Bryant; as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a host of extended family members and friends.

Her keen wit, strength, and pride of family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
