We celebrate the life and memory of Mrs. Barbara G. Magwood whose death occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at The Social at Savannah.

Barbara "Babs" Ann Magwood was born February 22, 1942, Savannah, Georgia, the youngest of Willie Greene and Warren Greene's eight children. She graduated from Sophronia M. Tompkins High School, was a member of St. Mark's Baptist Church, Conner's Temple Baptist Church, and later St. Paul CME Church in Savannah. Barbara earned an undergraduate degree from Savannah State College in elementary education. In 1967, she married Horace Magwood, Jr., in Savannah. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage and had two sons – Horace III, and Brian Landon. Throughout the 1970s-2000s, Barbara was devoted to her family, profession, church, sorority, and community. In 1975, she earned a master's degree in education from Savannah/Armstrong State University. Barbara was an active member of Savannah Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Savannah State University National Alumni Association. She served on several community boards including Curtis Cooper Primary Health Care and SONATA.  Additionally, Barbara was a member of the Wolverines, Quettes, and Savannah Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Barbara was well travelled as she explored the world. Her trips abroad were memorable as she returned home to tell her family about the marvels she witnessed. Whenever her grandchildren were involved in an awards ceremony, performance, cheerleader competition, or demonstration, Barbara would travel to support them. On Thursday night, June 26, 2025, she peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal home – "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7.

Barbara was preceded in death by Horace Magwood, Jr., her husband. She leaves to mourn her sons – Horace Magwood, III, Brian Landon Magwood, Sr.; daughters-in-law – Dr. Diann Demetria Bennett-Magwood, Jennifer Holly Davis Magwood; a grandson – Brian Landon Magwood, Jr.; three granddaughters – Faith Monique Magwood, Brooke Olivia Magwood, Lauren Christine Magwood; two sisters – Phyllis Greene Bradham, Harriet Greene; a brother – Warren Greene, Jr. (Patricia); three sisters-in-law – Kay Frances Calhoun-Fields (Miller), Ruth Carolyn Wright (Tony), and Altomease Magwood.

Public Viewing will be held from 5:00 pm - 8:00pm on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Campbell and Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 2520 Bonaventure Rd. Savannah, GA 31404.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Paul C.M.E. Church, 1601 Barnard St. Savannah, GA 31401.

Interment immediately following service: Greenwich Cemetery (1:00 p.m. Arrival)
