Obituary

Ms. Barbara Brown Johnson, 79, the beloved oldest daughter of the late Cleveland and Evelyn Brown, was born on January 9, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia.

Barbara was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School, Class of 1964. She furthered her education at Harris Street Vocational School.

At an early age, Barbara joined Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John Q. Adams. She was a faithful and active member who loved her church family and enjoyed attending Sunday School.

Barbara dedicated 30 years of service as an employee of the Central Intelligence Agency in McLean, Virginia. Her commitment, professionalism, and quiet strength were hallmarks of her career.

She was married to the late Ronald Johnson. From this union, she was blessed with three children: Ronald Johnson, Jr., Abdul Johnson, and Ayesha Johnson, all of Laurel, Maryland. Barbara was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother.

On Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, Barbara quietly entered into eternal rest.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children; one devoted granddaughter, Cheneen Johnson; two great-grandchildren: Nori and Arielle of Houston, Texas; two brothers: Cleveland Brown, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, and Tyrone Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters: Alfreda Jenkins of Atlanta, Georgia and Patricia Jordan of Covington, Georgia; a cousin Sheila Hicks Martin of Fredericksburg, Virginia, who was like a sister; a bonus brother, Alfred Delacey Brown of Savannah, Georgia; Beverly Baker Pleasant of Bladensburg, Maryland, a dear friend forever; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.

Though she has departed this earthly life, her legacy of love, faith, service, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Services will be held in Laurel, Maryland.
