We celebrate the life and memory of Ms. Ann Latrell Bayfield whose death occurred on Friday, January 2, 2026 at her residence.
Born on October 21, 1964, in Savannah, Georgia, Ann Latrell Horne Bayfield, affectionately known as "Trell," was the daughter of Ann Elizabeth Horne and Tommy Horne. She was the third of four siblings, growing up with two older brothers, Terence and Daryl, and one younger sister, Deirdra, aka "Fee."
Early Life and Education
Latrell grew up on the Eastside of Savannah before her family moved to Thunderbolt in her teens. She was a bright student who developed an early love for reading and mathematics. She attended Isle of Hope Elementary School and Hubert Middle School before graduating from Sol C. Johnson High School in 1981. Her extracurricular activities included playing tennis, participating in the Girl Scouts and modeling in fashion shows and advertisements for local clothing stores.
Higher Education and Career
In the 1980's, Latrell earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting from Savannah State University. After graduation, she established herself as a successful entrepreneur, serving Savannah-area residents as a trusted tax preparer and providing accounting services to local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
In the 1990's, Latrell turned her love of mathematics into a meaningful teaching career after earning a Master of Education degree from Georgia Southern University. For two decades, she taught in the Savannah Chatham County public school system and the Liberty County school district. She was also an adjunct instructor at Savannah Technical College, where she taught customer service and mathematics, equipping students with practical skills for success.
Entrepreneurship
In the 2000's, Latrell co-founded Global Educational Training Skills, an adult education and workforce development organization. She provided job training, GED preparation, and computer education to individuals at the Chatham County Sheriff's Department, reflecting her deep belief in opportunity, restoration, and second chances. Always eager to expand her career and business goals, Latrell became a licensed insurance agent, through which she built a wide and loving professional network. Her work was defined by genuine relationships, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Community Service and Interests
Actively engaged in her community, Latrell mentored Savannah youth and taught summer school and camps. She supported cultural events and proudly volunteered for the Savannah Jazz Festival. Among her many interests, she enjoyed concerts, and traveling, including a memorable trip to Cuba. An avid reader, plant lover and fashionista, she collected African American books, nurtured her countless houseplants, and delighted in finding stylish clothing and unique jewelry. She cherished family gatherings and loved to dance. Even a foot injury could not keep her from line dancing.
Faith and Family
Latrell was baptized at St. Mary's Baptist Church at age 10. As an adult, she joined St. John's Baptist Church, where her family worshiped for many years. In 1984, Latrell married Ronald Bayfield and from their union, they welcomed two beloved children, Ronald Bayfield, Jr. and Ronitra Bayfield. Over more than 20 years of marriage, they raised a family, restored a beautiful home in Savannah's historic district, and owned and operated a contracting business and rental properties.
Over the past two decades, Latrell lived a vibrant life as an accomplished independent single woman. Her indomitable spirit, enduring faith and devoted family, helped her confront and rise above life's challenges. Despite a prolonged illness, she enjoyed her final years comforted by family, friends, a caring community, and God's grace. She knew she was blessed beyond measure, and always expressed her love and gratitude by routinely calling and sending inspiring messages to her family and friends. Above all else, her children and grandchildren meant everything to her.
