Maybell "Sister" Edwards

October 12, 2019

We celebrate the life and memory of Ms. Maybell "Sister" Edwards whose death occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Hospice Savannah, Inc.

Maybell Edwards, Affectionately known as “SISTER” & “Dimples” (as her grandchildren called her) was born July 28th, 1944 to the late Clifford and Annie Bell Small Edwards Sr. Accepting Christ at an early age Maybell was baptized and educated in Garden City, GA.

Maybell was fun loving, adventurous, and loved life.  Once old enough to step higher Maybell ventured to Harlem, New York in 1965 where her love for life and people continued to flourish.  Maybell decided  it was time to come back home in 1982 where she lived, encouraged, supported,  and shared her bubbly loving spirit. To know Maybell was to love her, she was a woman who never met a stranger and everyone was her cousin.

Maybell was a faithful member of Fairlawn Baptist Church, where she served faithfully.   Maybell’s favorite scripture was  Psalm 23.   Maybell was a fighter who never accepted defeat so when illness attacked her body she was determined to be a victorious overcomer.

Sunday mornings located on the right side of Fairlawn you could find Maybell singing and praising God even when her body tried to dictate defeat.

Maybell was the woman loved by many from Savannah to New York, she was she full of life, as a matter of fact,  Maybell was the life of every  party. She loved to dance (she would throw her cane down and get down), she exhibited a love that is rare and had a gift for making others feel special. Maybell’s constant greeting was a smile, a hug, a kiss, and to say something uplifting.  Maybell dawning her beautiful smile, loved to be around her family & friends.  Maybell was a wonderful cook who loved pleasing and teasing your palates.

Maybell’s  daughter Peggy Edwards, two brothers Clifford “Sticker” Edwards Jr, Robert Edwards and great grandson Cameron Edwards proceeded her in death.

Maybell leaves to cherish her loving memories: Three daughter Barbara Edwards, Nichole (Orlando) Lee both of Savannah, GA. Cheryl (Michael) of Brooklyn, NY. Two sons Ricky Polite and Tony (Katrina) Edwards both of Savannah, GA. As a son Nicholas Goodman of Savannah, GA.
