Bennie Ruth Legree

We celebrate the life and memory of Ms. Bennie Ruth Legree whose death occurred on Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was native of Savannah, GA and educated in the public schools of Chatham County. She was a graduate of Richard Arnold High School.

Ms. Bennie was a member of Grace Full Gospel Church, where she served as the Church Mother.

Bennie was also a member of Eastern Stars.

She retired after over 30 years of service in the field of Caregiving and Customer Service Specialist. Ms. Legree was one of the first African American women to be employed by the United States Postal Service, in New York City.

Bennie leaves behind one son, Anthony Sims, four daughters, Cynthia Sims, Angela (Joseph) Breaker, Wanda Sims, and Charise Turner, one sister, Karen Payne, 16 grand children, 19 great grand children, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at

Grace Full Gospel

Interment ~ Bonaventure Cemetery (Greenwich Section)
